The KEEP Toolkit is available from this website as a free web-based service. When you sign up for an account you have full access to the current version of the application. It is our aim to offer the KEEP Toolkit as a downloadable package for widespread incorporation by educational programs and institutions in the near future. At this time, a small number of institutions are participating in pilot migration efforts. With some assistance from the KEEP Toolkit development team, they are working through issues of hosting, installation, integration and support services. Migration support is not part of the current scope of the KEEP development team however it is our hope that through these pilot efforts, solutions and documentation for migration will emerge. If your organization is interested in hosting a local version of the KEEP Toolkit, please direct all inquiries to [email protected]. The KEEP Toolkit development team is also working closely with other open source technology initiatives, such as Sakai and OKI, to make certain that KEEP will be easily integrated into other educational enterprise systems (e.g., learning management systems). This kind of partnership enables us to make our tools (or tool functions) widely accessible while allowing us to focus on the development of the next generation KEEP Toolkit. The KEEP Toolkit uses the Educational Community License. It is an approved Open Source Initiative license. The Educational Community License is also an "open/open" license, which means the source code will be available for unrestricted development by commercial or noncommercial entities when it is made public in the near future. There are other open source components of the KEEP Toolkit, including the Rich Text Editor obedit, that are licensed under the GPL and LGPL licenses.
