New Features!

KEEP Toolkit 1.9.8 is here!

Dashboard Organization
Now you can organize your Dashboard by applying tags or keywords to your snapshots, stitched groups, and galleries! Just select any number of snapshots that you want labeled and apply your own tags to them. These tagged snapshots can be found within your Dashboard by using a Tag Cloud or a Tag Search. This new Dashboard organization enables users to easily group and find snapshots, stitched groups and galleries by tagging.

Tagging
Tags are basic descriptors or labels consisting of single words like "math" or two or more words like "matheducation." Multiple tags can be applied to the same work. Soon we will offer a selection of Carnegie Signature tags as well. Log in and start creating your own!

KEEP Statistics

Demand for Distributable KEEP on the rise!

Interest in the Distributable version of the KEEP Toolkit has been increasing, and our international requests have skyrocketed. Most of the interest arising in KEEP is focused on using the Toolkit for student e-portfolios or for use with specific student or faculty projects. To date there have been requests from individuals at forty-four institutions around the world. The range of institutions includes community colleges to universities as well as non-profit and governmental organizations. If you are interested in running KEEP at your own institution email us at help@kml.carnegiefoundation.org

The pie chart below represents the forty-four institutions that have requested information about hosting KEEP. The breakdown is based on our Distributable KEEP Prospects List.

Cultivating the KEEP Community

Dare to Share
Share your exceptional KEEP snapshots, stitched groups, and galleries with us and contribute to the KEEP community. We plan to feature your wonderful work in the new community space we are developing on our website. You can also email comments@kml.carnegiefoundation.org with your observations and feedback if you have used the KEEP Toolkit in a new or different way.

Helpful tips from our users
Check out great KEEP Toolkit Help Tips from Megan Jack, Web communications and learning coordinator at the University of Waterloo, who put together a wonderful stitched group using the KEEP Toolkit for her Canadian students. If you have created something similar for yourself, your team mates or your students, we would be eager to hear from you and to feature your tips in the upcoming issue of our newsletter as well as on our website.

Searchable Public Archive
The KEEP Toolkit team at the Knowledge Media Lab is currently working to launch a searchable public archive of snapshots, stitched groups, and galleries. The archive will consist of work by the tens of thousands of faculty, teachers, and students using the KEEP Toolkit. This will enable educators and students all around the world to share in the wealth of community knowledge and experience. The projected launch date for the archive is Spring 2007. All KEEP Toolkit users are encouraged to make their finished work publicly viewable over the next few months. For all of us, as a community of practice, this is an opportunity to collectively further teaching and learning by building on one another’s work.

Community Showcase

The Center for Teaching and Learning at Mesa Community College has been a member of the distributable KEEP community for over half a year. The KML would like to share with you the specialized title logo that MCC has created for their copy of Distributable KEEP.

"We initially chose the KEEP toolkit to document the teaching and learning projects done by our faculty and professional learning communities (FPLC) at Mesa Community College. This year we have over 60 faculty and staff involved in six FPLCs investigating topics including global learning, sustainability, podcasting, humanities, undergraduate research and the nature of science. We were especially attracted by the ease of use of the KEEP toolkit for nontechnical users. We are also hoping to use it to record other projects in our Center for Teaching and Learning, and many faculty have indicated that they would like to use it for student projects."

Important changes to our Privacy Policy

The Knowledge Media Lab is making some important changes regarding the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service for the KEEP Toolkit.

Privacy
The non-disclosure portion of the license has been updated. This change allows the KML to publicly post copies of help requests in our online help forum. We believe that many problems are common to users and that publishing these problems and thier solutions will benefit more people. In order to protect the confidential nature of the communication, the full name and email address of the user will NEVER be used in a forum post and identifying information will be removed.

Educational Use

The change in this document is a clarification. As KEEP is not intended to host materials for other sites, we will be limiting or eliminating access to uploaded files from websites outside KEEP in the near future. If the user wishes to refer to a video, we recommend that a snapshot be created within KEEP that contains the file(s).

Copyright and Response Clarification

If a snapshot is used to host copyrighted material without the owner's permission, the page is subject to being made private and the files may be deleted if the owner of the snapshot is not responsive to inquiries. Fair Use is considered a legitimate reason depending on circumstances. There will always be an attempt to contact the snapshot owner before serious actions are taken.
