Providing motivation and

opportunity through growth.

This academic portfolio is a record of my Single Subject proficiency in the areas of Literature, Language, Linguistics, Literacy, Composition, Rhetoric, and Communications.

I demonstrated my Single Subject Competency at SFSU after completing my Bachelor's in English Literature. I completed my Early Field Experience hours for the Multiple Subject Credential at Lakeshore Elementary as part of a program teaching elementary reading. The course was designed to give prospective teachers an intro into teaching decoding and phonological awareness.

For my Early Field Experience hours for the Single Subject Credential I worked through a volunteer organization called 826 Valencia. One of our projects I spent the majority of my hours on was volunteering to help Everett Middle School students learn the skills to write and revise their own news stories for the school newspaper. I worked with students on topics ranging from shoe-fashions and manga, to sports and cars. SFSU was where I completed my teaching credential in English, student teaching at Hillsdale High working closely with master teachers, Ms. Shirley Gibson and Ms. Kristin Sanchez.

I also have paid experience as a teacher through Score! Learning Centers, a computerized curriculum for kids of all ages to learn test taking skills in math, reading, spelling, science, and writing, among other subjects. Currently have over a year's paid experience as an instructor at Sylvan Learning Centers, teaching pre-K through 12th grade - in Beginning Reading, Academic Reading and Writing, Math Essentials, Algebra 1 & 2, Homework Help and guidance through Study Skills, including state test preparation and SAT/ACT® test preparation.

I come from a teaching family and have a love for English. Feel free to take a gander through my resume to see some of places I've worked as a tutor with students on reading and math, such as the Samaritan House in San Mateo, as well as other organizations I've volunteered through such as the Interact Club and Mills Peninsula Hospital, also in San Mateo.
