COPPER News 2004

Bill Snyder, an international expert on organizational change and communities of practice, has served as consultant to the COPPER group since the spring of 2004. The COPPER group has tried to design our community of practice using information described in Cultivating Communities of Practice: A Guide to Managing Knowledge (Wenger, McDermott, & Snyder, 2002). Bill's insights have been invaluable for us as we have attempted to translate principles into practice across our cluster colleges. He describes a general overview of communities of practice and links to COPPER work in this short video.

Ongoing Collaborative Projects

Middlesex Community College, Northern Essex Community College and Valencia Community College are collaborating with faculty from North Seattle CC, Quinnipiac University and the University of the Arts in London in an online classroom action research project during the Spring 2006 semester. Participants in three clusters - a developmental math group, an English group, and an Art (Drawing) group will share ideas on curriculum, instructional strategies, learning activities, performance criteria for student work, and meaningful assessment. The project, hosted by Middlesex Community College, offers faculty the opportunity to evaluate and document the effectiveness of one of their instructional strategies or to investigate a question related to student learning in their course.
