Participation in Education Meetings Training new faculty concerned with the progress and development of educational resources is extremely important to the future of biology. One of the most important aspects of this training is to encourage dissemination and discussion of resources we develop at scientific and/or educational meetings. In November 2002, Dina Halme, Michelle Mischke and Graham Walker attended a conference at the University of Maryland entitled "Undergraduate Research and Scholarship and the Mission of the Research University," which was sponsored by the by the Stony Brook Reinvention Center. In the summer of 2003, Graham Walker participated in an NRC-sponsored Pilot Summer Workshop in Wisconsin that was organized by Bill Wood and Jim Gentile In September of 2003, Graham Walker spoke at an HHMI Investigators meeting. In October of 2003, Graham was asked to give a talk about his activities as an HHMI Professor to the MacVicar fellows, a group of MIT faculty who have all received MIT's highest teaching award. In November of 2003, Dina Gould Halme and Graham Walker co-presented at the HHMI Professors meeting. In January of 2004, Julia Khodor and Dina Gould Halme presented a poster at the CSBi conference at MIT. In June of 2004, Julia Khodor was an invited speaker at the National Academy of Sciences sponsored workshop entitled "Investigating introductory science courses in the undergraduate context: a systems approach". In October of 2004, Melissa Kosinski-Collins and Shannon Flaugh attended a meeting entitled "Enhancing and Maintaining Public Education In Difficult Times" sponsored by the Massachusetts chapter of Parents CARE! On Febuary, 20, 2005, Graham Walker presented at the AAAS Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. in a session entitled: When is a classroom not a classroom? Transformations in undergraduate education. In March of 2005, Graham Walker and Melissa Kosinski-Collins co-presented at a conference entitled, "Improving Biology Education: Practice and Theory" sponsored by W.H. Freeman and Sinauer Associates Publishers. On June 7, 2005, Graham Walker presented at the ASM Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA in a session entitled Rising to the Challenge: Scentific Educators and Educator's Science. On July 30, 2005, Graham Walker presented at the Society for Developmental Biology Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA.
