Jacleen Joiner, Jeanne Price, Dan Billick, Amy Straus, Tracy Stone

Hey Sixers!!!

I just wanted to thank ya'll for an awesome semester! It was fun getting to know ya'll and work with ya'll as a team. I really feel I have really gotten to know ya'll outside of class. Good luck with the final and have a great summer!

Love,

Amy

How Can We Make The Sixers a Better Team Than We Already Are?

We're already a great team but how about actually looking at the links about working in a group.

I think we need to ALL get on here and collaborate together. So far, this hasn't been happening. It's a great resource to communicate.

Hey Ya'll! Here is my schedule for the remainder of school for possible study times. . .

SAturday - Anytime after 3:00pm.

Sunday - Anytime after 1:00pm

Monday - After 10:00am

Good luck!

Love,

Dan

Tips for Working Successfully in a Group

A dozen things I think I know about working in groups

Discussion About Diet and Obesity

Nestle discusses the problem in having the USDA decide the dietary guidelines and the design of the food pyramid when their priority is agriculture. Is the USDA really concerned about America's health or does it have another agenda?

Also, Americans seem to be totally consumed in these quick fix diets, some seeming to harm rather than help the health of people who buy into them. Herbal remedies also have become mainstream. But I wonder if the increase in diets and herbal remedies are really solving the problem. From the steady increase of obesity in America these solutions don't seem to be rectifying the situation.

Food Intake Graph

This is a graph that represents the average amount of food that our group eats per day using the food journals. The graph below represents the amount that Mypyramid.gov recommends.

Any thoughts about the first test? How can we work and study together better?

Jeanne- I think we should go over Key Concepts and make sure we know definitions- writing down thoughts and thinking things out in the individual will help us in the group- but we did amazing!

Jacleen- I think that we should take the Key Concepts and divide them amongst each other in order to later explain them to one another. This will save time for all of us and will be more interactive than just learning the material on our own.

Final Exams : Study Tips For College Students

If you're like most college students, you've cowered at the stress brought on by final exams and partied under the incredible feeling of relief experienced when they're done. If you've ever walked out of class...asking everyone else... "What answer did you put down for the question about....?" -- then you're definitely in need of some academic assistance this semester!

You can't erase mistakes that began the first week of classes. There really is no better advice when it comes to cramming for finals than that which suggests NOT to even get yourself into a predicament that will require "cramming." As many "tricks" as you've learned over the years.....as many mediocre grades as you've gotten away with when you really didn't know the material all that well.... it's still never going to spell an "A"-- a 4.0 ... or anything close.. unless you've been preparing for finals .. .in steps... all the way through the semester. don't let yourself fall into a predicament that requires cramming! When it comes to studying for finals, TheSemester.Com urges all students to begin from day one---the moment you get your syllabus and know what the first lesson is going to be about! It is extremely rare... perhaps even impossible... that an entire semester of work can be learned in one week or even in one month...much less during the course of one night. And while some students argue that they'd rather spend a few hours 'hitting the books' just once or twice a semester than all semester long, most of these naysayers have never truly taken the initiative to experience the carefree feeling of comparative relaxation that follows around students who study just a little bit before each class...throughout the entire semester.

Don't get us wrong. We're NOT suggesting that any student stress themselves out and begin plotting and planning for final exams on their first day back to school. As suggested in our "first day of class" section, TheSemester.Com believes that all students should focus on smaller goals rather than on larger ones. Avoid becoming engulfed in your syllabi: study the night before each class as though you were preparing for an exam that would cover what was taught in the previous class. Keep your mind on the smaller modules.. the individual classes.. the building blocks.. and by the time finals roll around.. you'll hardly need to study. Don't spend the semester consciously preparing for finals.. Spend the entire semester studying only the previous classes' material...and you'll have a far better chance of walking away from the semester......carefree....

Howabout the second test, anyone?

Jeanne- This one was a LOT harder and i think more confusing even though there was less information.

Jacleen- This test was a lot more confusing. I knew the information however, it didn't seem to be much of a help. Anybody have any study tips?

A genius piece of work...

Homework! Oh, Homework!

I hate you! You stink!

I wish I could wash you away in the sink,

if only a bomb

would explode you to bits.

Homework! Oh, homework!

You're giving me fits.

I'd rather take baths

with a man-eating shark,

or wrestle a lion

alone in the dark,

eat spinach and liver,

pet ten porcupines,

than tackle the homework,

my teacher assigns.

Homework! Oh, homework!

you're last on my list,

I simple can't see

why you even exist,

if you just disappeared

it would tickle me pink.

Homework! Oh, homework!

I hate you! You stink!

Be sure to give this site a visit when you need to take a much needed study break! Good Luck! Dan E. B.

Hi, my name is Dan E. Billick and I'd like to take just a few moments to introduce myself. I am Sociology major within the Liberal Arts Management Program (LAMP) with minors in Communication / Culture, Dutch, and Small Business Mgmt. / Entrepreneurship. I am one of seven children in my family, with only one being younger than me -eek!

Some of the most important things to know are that I am a HUGE fan of music. My brothers and I all play instruments, sing, and always end up talking about music one way or the other. Also, I was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes (type I) 10 years ago on December 23rd. It has been a challenging experience causing me to learn many of life's lessons faster than most. In fact, that was my main motivation to taking E105: Human Organism. I hope to learn about my bodily functions and processes to better control my sugar levels and overall health.

My name is Jacleen Joiner and I am from Merrillville,IN. I am a junior here at Indiana University, majoring in Secondary Education/English and hopefully, getting a minor in Criminal Justice. I am the oldest out of four children, with one sister and two brothers, so I'm used to working hard. This is my first Science class since high school and it has been a quite interesting experience thus far.

My name is Jeanne Price and I am from Indianapolis. My major is Journalism and my minor is Sociology, so this class is a Natural and Mathematical credit for me. I'm the oldest sibling in my family of 2 girls. Hopefully with the way our team has been working, we can do really well in this class! (317) 874-6337 juust in case

My name is Amy Straus and I am from Houston, Texas. I am a junior at Indiana University majoring in telecommunications and a minor in psychology. I am 21 years old and I am the youngest of 3 girls in my family. I have never taken a science class in college, and the last time I took a science class was when i was a junior in high school, so I am a little skeptical about how I will perform in this class. On the other note, I am interested in learning a new subject, one that is not about media, and hopefully getting to know the people in my team!
