Preflection on Assignment 3: Persuasive Message

Persuasive messages need to be more carefully planned because they can be complicated and sensitive. Both the demographics and the psychographics of the audience are analyzed to establish an effective persuasion. Also, the analysis of the purpose is important because it will persuade the audience to take action that they won’t have taken without the message. Moreover, credibility must be unquestionable when persuading skeptical audience. Therefore, I plan my persuasive message with these ideas in mind and the AIDA plan from the textbook.

I plan to write a sales letter about the occupancy sensor lighting system. Initially, I didn't know much about the system except for the fact that they save energy. Since the type of persuasive message I'm writing is a sales letter, the readers may be resistant; hence, I think using mainly the logical appeal is the most appropriate. So a lot of research is needed prior to writing the persuasive message because facts are needed to support my argument and establish my credibility.

My purpose of the persuasive message is to persuade the readers to buy the occupancy sensor lighting system. I have to provide information on the features of this system and show that this system will benefit the readers. Also, I plan to use statistics and an anecdote about the cost savings after implementing this lighting system as the central selling point. They will be convincing to the readers that the system can greatly benefit the readers. Other selling points I plan to use are easy installation, large coverage area, compact design, adjustable sensitivity, etc. One of the challenges that I face is to organize and determine which selling points to use because some of them were very technical from my research. Furthermore, I will use a friendly, conversational tone throughout the letter, and ensure that the readers can easily place an order as closing.
