HHMI Holiday Lecture DVD Project Participation

effort led by Mandana Sassanfar

As Director of MIT's Undergraduate Program, Graham agreed to take part in the project to have high school teachers develop curricular material for one of the HHMI Holiday lectures. Four extremely dedicated biology teachers from local schools participated and did an excellent job. We felt that it would be useful to have some additional curricular material but recognized that all these high school teachers are extremely busy. Consequently members of the Education Group generated this extra educational material. We also redesigned the classroom exercise proposed by the teachers after realizing that there were some conceptual problems with the original design. All of the teachers who participated in the summer workshop are currently involved in beta-testing the material that has been developed. We are also in the process of making an animation to complement one of the lectures. Overall, the Education Group has been able to support and complement the work done by the high school teachers.
