Academic Learning Goal


Name:

This is a sample goal appropriate for all University Transition Students. Other academic goals should be written individually as needed for specific changes to the regular courses that students are required to take, or for accomodation wihin anyspecific subject. Individual academic goals may also be appropriate when students are attending to learning specific study or work habit skills.


Date:

This is a goal for the 2004/2005 school year. As with all IEP goals, it will be reviewed in each term, most specifically at IEP conferences in Terms 1 and 3.


Goal:

To understand and work with the new concepts and skills being taught in all of my coursework at Transition.


Learning Activities

  • Arrive at class fully prepared with finished homeowrk.
  • Use my agenda to record assignments as they are assigned.
  • Ask questions and clarify information about assignments well in advance.
  • Take notes in class. Properly date notes and keep them well organized. Mark questions I need to ask as they come up.
  • Review notes at the end of each day as I organize them into my binders by subject. Make a note of any questions I need to ask the following day.
  • Take advantage of time before and after school to ask teachers for helps as needed.
  • Participate constructively in class and listen to my classmates and the teacher.
  • Preread material for class as much as I am able.
  • Read material slowly. Make notes as I read, particularly of questions I need to ask or things I need to review.
  • Hand in assignments as early as possible. Ask for feedback on drafts.
  • Read all comments on marked assignments, quizzes, tests and essays.
  • Help my classmates as needed and ask classmates for help when I need it.
  • Turn off MSN when I am doing other work. Have a set time and place for doing homework. Pay attention to what study strategies work well for me.
  • Get adequate sleep every night. (Be in bed before midnight ALWAYS!)
  • Get adequate exercise regularly. (See fitness goals.)

  • Assignments will be handed in on time and thoroughly done.
  • Notes, assignments and quizzes will be well organized in my binders for each subject.
  • I will have a good working relationship with my classmates and my teachers.
