KML Tools & Resources 2010 Group Snapshot

"The Right Group"

Tools

Possibilities & Opportunities:

What do we want to achieve with the tool?

Do we train the reader or the creator in how to best approach a snapshot.

We want it to be broad enough for people to approach it as they want to...

The tool helps people investigate their teaching but what does it do for the reader

-in a museum they can become inspired

-in a library they can borrow

There seem to be two types of users- ones that document their work and also those that use the tool to reflect upon their work. The tool should help them approach their work differently, to understand their work differently.

The other user wants to use the tool to find out whats going on with his/her peers to be inspired.

If we have snapshots and community created snapshots we open up the opportunity to share this knowledge more broadly.

Delicious functionality. spellchecking for conceptual things.

-How do we share the benefits of the tool? How do we make it clear what the tool can do for the user?

-Within the KML, how can we facilitate our collective knowledge? the blog?

Issues & Challenges:

Resources

Possibilities & Opportunities:

Integrating the tools and resources.

Who are our users?

i.e. Do we want to target teachers at levels, anyone that wants to put stuff online, students to share and collaborate.

Making learning visible, reflections visible, but how do we share?

Searching resources.

What are the pedagogical tools that help make learning visible?

Space for related individuals to find meaningful conversations/research that crosses the boundary between their discipline and the scholarship of teaching.

Continue to build on the intellectual community of scholarship of teaching.

Critique metaphor- group together looking at a piece of work and talking about the success and challenges together.

The tools and resources should connect the atomic and metaphysical levels.

Issues & Challenges:

Knowledge

What kinds of knowledge can be built and shared?

Goals:

Collaboration

Conceptual Guide

There should be no struggle with the tool. It should be invisible and foolproof.

Figure out the conceptual framework and let the tool do the rest.

Where will we be in 5 years?

What sort of community? People working together in five years or getting people to put these things up for the public. A community that people continue to build upon and collaborate.
