Major Learning Outcomes

The following are the representations of the outcomes that I have learned from the major.

  • Core Outcomes
  • Core MLOs include classes that are required to all TMAC students.

Major Proseminar(CST300)Composed of two parts: Lecture & Lab. This class taught me how to write papers in a Collegiate level and to do a presentation in a professional manner.

Computing Architecture & Environments(CST337)I was able to learn the basic knowldge in this class such as the binary digits, computer memory, parts of computer, etc. Part of the class project is to create a final paper and a class website that will show the parts of the computer that we have learned (Website captured below).

Media Tools (CST201)This is one of the classes where I learned a lot of things and had so much fun. Eventhough it is time consuming and requires a lot of work, this is where I found out that working with Flash software might be one of my options in choosing a career in the future. Shown below is the website that I created in Flash for the final project.

Problem Solving & Programming with C (CST231)The outcomes for this class taught me useful things that are significant to my Major. This was my starting point as a programmer, the first programming class, ever, that I took. I learned from defining a class, to data types, to for loops, and to arrays. The final project for the class is to create a program that will exercise the knowledge we have learned. I collaborated with two other students for the final project and we created a trivia game called "Ten Questions" that showed the programming skills we learned.

Telecommunications & Society(CST310)This is a class that I viewed as a starting point in networking. Part of the curriculum is to learn something about networking. This class helps me understand basic information about networking which will be handy for future reference. The knowledge that I have learned includes the history of communications, how LAN is different from other Area Networks, topologies, etc.

Discrete Mathematics(MATH170) This is the only Math requirement for the major. I have learned about the logic tables and binary digits. We also solved computer related mathematical problems. Aside from this class, I also took Math171 which is Calculus II.

Current Issues in Communications & Technology(CST371) This class fulfills the ethical issues that should be considered about the Major. I actually took the online class, and aside from the information learned from the class, I was able to use and familiarized myself to Blackboard through the Discussion board and online chat. We exchanged ideas about the readings from the book. We wrote a couple of papers and presented by the end of the semester. I got to learn about Computer viruses such as worms and trojans. Below is a slide from the Power Point that I made for my "Virus" presentation.

  • Tech Outcomes
  • Tech MLOs include classes for TMAC students specializing in Tech track.

Software Design(CST338) This is one of the class that I am currently taking. As what we should expect, we should learn how to solve a problem in different programs. We should be able to look at the code and analyze why it doesn't work and from there be able to implement the knowledge we've learned in programming.

Database Management : Methods & Application(MIE363) Database Management basically organizes large or small databases into understandable and accessible data. We used the Microsoft Access software to be able to do this. We used flowcharts and tables to represent the data. I also learned how to write SQL queries and be able to solve query problems.

Internet Programming(CST336) The Internet Programming class is basically a Java Programming class. This class taught me how to program in Java language and implement in through the Internet. The Capstone that I chose has to deal with a lot of Java programming, so this class was very influential with my project. We had to do two final projects that will evidently show what we have learned in class. Below is the ATM simulation that we had to create for the project.

UNIX & X Windows(CST334) From this class I learned that there are other operating systems aside from Windows, such as UNIX & X-Windows. We learned how to use vi editor, security issues, and a lot more. We did a final presentaion for this class wherein we had to choose a topic that was not discussed in class.

Advanced Systems Administration(CST434) This is one of the class that I am currently taking. As of now, we have learned a few things such as the powers of being a root and Sendmail.

  • Advanced Outcomes
  • Advanced MLOs are advanced classes that are also required to all TMAC students.

Capstone Project Planning(CST400)This class is supposed to prepare us for the Capstone Project. The instructors gave us some tips on how to write our Capstone Proposal. They also guide us through the project i.e. what we need to improve, update our timeline, meet up with advisors, etc.

Capstone Lab(CST401)One of the classes that I am taking on my final semester. The expected outcome for this class is to be able to guide us through creating the Capstone Project and be able to finalize it and present it to the public. By the end of the semester, everything should be settled such as the advisors had fully approved our Project and the ILP had been completed. My Capstone Project is introduced in the main page.

Technology Tutors(CST361S)I had a great experience from the Service Learning that we had for this class. From it, Iwas able to share my knowledge about computers and different software. We are assigned to Seaside High School to do a volunteer job to help the teachers, students, and staffs to use the computer and software efficiently. That was one of the best experiences that I had in CSUMB. I was able to develop my skills and learn at the same time.

The following link directs you to the website that we had created for the class. It includes the journal that I update everytime I go to my Service Learning site, the papers that we wrote, the community research/survey that we did, and the assignments.

  • Additional Requirements
  • Assessment of the LANG ULR(ASMT426) This is one of the required class to take for the major. Since I am fluent in another language, Tagalog that is, I decided to assess this class.

Assessment of the TECH ULR(ASMT430) When I came here to CSUMB, I had a background knowledge about computers. I took a class at my Community College that helped me assess the Tech Tools class.
