Initial Expectations & Understandings I expected to be introduced to a wealth of information pertaining to the UGRR. Prior to this workshop, I knew very little about the UGRR. I was aware of some of the significant persons involved in the UGRR, such as: Tubman, Douglass, etc., but as a result of this workshop, new personalities have been uncovered (i.e., Joe "Box" brown, Stevens/Smith involvement). Additionally, I found learning about the Christiana Resistance (Riot) extremely interesting given my close proximity to this area. I anticipated this course was going to instill student pride in their local history. My interest in taking this course was partly due to my desire to learn more about this topic as well as possbily consult with teachers who teach about the UGRR at each of the different buliding levels. Furthermore, I beleive this course was going to increase my understanding of culturally diverse issues.

Formative Workshop Experiences I feel I have learned an enormous amount of information pertaining to the UGRR in such a limited length of time (one-week workshop). I find myself sharing my daily I particular enjoyed the field trips and the hands-on learning which took place throughout the week. I would recommend additional field trips (time permitting) to other sites (walking tour of Strasburg, Lancaster, York). The Christiana field trip was the most meaningful regarding my professional development since Christiana is a community within the Octorara Area School District. I anticipate sharing the knowledge from the visit with my students will help faciliate student pride in their local history.

Outcomes I plan on sharing my newly acquired information on the UGRR with whomever will listen. When teachers in my District cover the UGRR in their classrooms I plan on informing and sharing with them my findings from this week. I believe this consultation with benefit both the students and teachers. I am most motivate to share my understanding of The Christiana Resistance with my teachers/students given the local history.
