For Practicing Teachers:

You probably don't have time during your teaching day to go and observe other teachers, to see what they are doing in their practice. Through these websites, you can take as much or as little time as you can spare to 'visit' other classrooms, to see what other teachers are doing, to borrow what you think you might be able to adapt for your own practice. This exhibition is intended as a new form of collaboration. Feel free to look, to borrow, and to give your feedback.

For Prospective Teachers:

During your preparation to teach, you will be in a limited number of classrooms (usually two) as you do your student teaching. You may have time in your busy schedule to observe in a few more in the school where you have your placement. These websites give you a chance to 'observe' in a number of other classrooms, to see how different teachers approach the challenges of teaching, and perhaps to find models and strategies you can use as you form your own practice.

For Teacher Educators:

The prospective teachers in your courses may or may not observe in their placements the approaches to teaching that you are advocating. By using these websites as 'texts' in your courses, you can engage prospective and practicing teachers in reflecting upon a wide variety of examples of reform approaches to science learning and teaching. You can explore several ways to use the websites in two websites below by teacher educators (Richert, van Zee). Also below is a website about an elementary science teaching methods course (Smith).

Feeling at Home in the Science Classroom

Claire Bove, Bancroft Middle School, San Leandro, CA

How can I build community in my classroom and how does that sense of community support critical thinking in science?

Learning about Adolescents from Teachers Who Teach Them Well

Anna Richert, Mills College, Oakland, CA

What can my students and I learn about adolescent development and teaching adolescents from studying the practice of our successful veteran secondary school colleagues?

Using 'Snapshots of Practice' to Engage Prospective Teachers in Learning Through Inquiry

Emily van Zee, University of Maryland, College Park

How can I use "snapshots of practice" to engage prospective teachers in the process of inquiring into science learning and teaching?
