What is imagination?

(Jack)-I dont know what to write for my English Story? (Charlie)-Well what kind of story do you want it to be like? (Jack)-I dunno (Charlie)-Use your imagination. (Jack)-Whats that?? (Charlie)-Well it's when you create a mental image of something that is neither perceived as real nor present to the senses. (Jack)-Oh so it's like making something up in your head. (Charlie)- Yeah that's it, you got it man! (Jack)-So with this story I could make up a whole new city. (Charlie)-Even a whole new world! (Jack)-WOW!!! (Charlie)- Yeah so lets hear some of your ideas? (Jack)- Well I was thinking... (Charlie)-Great start (Jack)- Don't take the mick, imagination takes a while to power up. Anyway there's a world called Hoskingtobland where ice-cream grows on trees and little goblins rule the world. Then in the midst of night an army of fish rebel with some sharp cardboard and wipe out half the goblin race. Then a small jigabogga grabs a sponge and absorbs the fishes water living supply and throws it at the goblin emperor. Good? (Charlie)- Wait to use your imagination. Thats a bit too imaginative. (Jack)- But isnt that good?

What do we use our imagination for?

By Amy and Jess We use our imagination for many things. These things include:Reading(visulising what is described),writing poems/stories, Listening to a description of somthing or somewhere and actually imagining the object or place in your mind! We can also use our imagination in drama(playing games),art, music or dance and through creativity and design. If you are shown a scene or design you can often imagine what it is like to be there. Look at the pictures can you imagine what it is like to be there in that situation or in that place?

How important imagination is?

In this text, me (Caidyn) and Aaron will be answering the question 'how important is imagination to us?' We will also be asking our fellow class mates how important they think imagination is. So read on and enjoy. Aaron's comment:-"Imagination is really important. If i don't have imagination, I wouldn't be who i am today. I use my imagination to express how i feel e.g. When i do graffiti, i think first then draw it. I think that is the best solution." Caidyn's comments:-"Imagination, to me is very important because I use my imagination in acting, music, art and dance. I mainly use or express my imagination through humour, what I do is, i imagine something to be funny and so I say, but sometimes it isn't funny and I make a fool of myself, but most of the time it is funny." Jack's comments:-"magination is very important, because sometimes you need imagination in work, such as writing stories in English and when you have to make up drama pieces. Also imagination is very important in music and dance because you to use your imagination to make routines in dance and you have to use your imagination in music to make up melodies." Charlie's comments:-"Imagination is very important because you use it when writing stories and when in drama you have to improvise and make up something quickly. Also, imagination is important in dance because sometimes you have to add your own dance moves. I find imagination really important and i don't know how we'd live without it, one we would all think nothing!"

How other people feel about their own imagination

By Charlotte and Leigh. We found that many different people have very different thoughts about their imagination. We went round school on a quest to find out other people's views and comments on their OWN imagintion. With a camera in hand we began. Suprisingly, we found that teachers said that their imaginations were great! But we're not interested in teachers. We're interested on our own kind. KIDS. We realised that people who are shy tend not to have great thoughts about their OWN imagination. This may be because when your shy you tend not to express your opinions so you don't learn oppinions of others aroud you. A way you could help this may be if you don't like speaking aloud then you could write down your feelings and ideas in story form or poems. To inspire your imagination you could read or watch films. You can also write or listen to songs.Do you think that this is true? How else do you think we can inspire our imagination?

Interesting responses from teachers

BY Leanne and Lucy!

There were various responses from the teachers that we interviewed. Personally we think that we are better than the other groups so don't read theirs because it's boring!(joke funny HA HA!) Anyway we decided to interview different subject teachers because we thought they would have very different opinions. The first person we interviewed was Ms Shaw: she teaches DT and art. One of the most interesting things that she said was about how blind people must feel about their imagination. A few days later we were discussing this idea and we realised how important their imagination must be to them. If you think about it, it must be soooooo difficult; you can't see and you must have to make up what everything looks like. We're not sure if it would be easier to be imaginative if you were born blind or it happened in an accident or something. Just think about it for a while maybe you could close your eyes and try to imagine like blind people do. Now, was it difficult?

Most of the teachers thought that pupils did get lots of chances to use their imagination.
