What is the focus of your investigation? GNM 1144 Ways of Knowing is an Honors freshmen course. While my focus is "how do we know what we know?" and "how do different ways of knowing come into conflict?" I am having them delve into how "ways of knowing" affect public policy.

What are the public policy discussion assignments? You must engage in role-play in at least TWO of the following discussion sessions: Discussion 1: Religion & Science - Evolution, Creationism, & Intelligent Design in the Public Schools Discussion 2: Religion & Science - When does life begin? Discussion 3: Politics & the Environment For the sessions that you choose, you will pick a role to play. You are to research the attitudes and opinions of your character with respect to a question to be given out in class. During class, you should be prepared to try to participate in a debate as if you were that character. You will also turn in a short paper summarizing your position. The details on this paper will be provided with your discussion question. During the session that you are not role-playing, you will "play" yourself. You are still expected to engage in the debate. You will turn in a short reaction paper to the debate. The details on the reaction paper will be provided with the discussion question. If you do not choose to role-play in this discussion, come prepared. If you have religious beliefs, what does your religion say about evolution? (Note that what you think they think may not be accurate. Consult your local religious leader, but also check the religion's official website. Local groups may not follow church ideology absolutely.) If you are an atheist, agnostic, or just not particularly interested in what your religion thinks, try looking into another religion. Is there agreement within Hinduism about evolution? What about within Islam? Do Quakers support the teaching of evolution?
