Bruce Munson et. al. University of Minnesota Water on the Web In this Snapshot, Professor Munson incorporated imagery from the Water on the Web (WOW) Website into the Snapshot. The images add color and interest as well as provide the reader with a visual tie back to the WOW Website. The Snapshot is written from Professor Munson and the WOW team's point of view - this is not a dry, academic article. The first message you read that is very important to learning about the site is that the authors value the use of real-world data in teaching science. Getting this message 'up front' lets the reader know immediately that this site supports innovative teaching in the earth sciences. Laura Gibbs University of Oklahoma Fabulai Vulgatae This Snapshot is notable because of Dr. Gibb's ability to tell the story of Fabulai Vulgatae briefly and fully. She lays out the motivation for the class, describes the context of the class in the Background section and includes course resources in the Learning Activities and Tips for Teaching. Dr. Gibbs also did two unique things. She added the Fabulae Vulgatae image in the title. This is not an easy task for those of us who do not know HTML - Warning - multiple headings in the title can only be added using HTML. She also added a new box to the template at the bottom right hand corner inviting readers to view her own website. By adding this box here, she maintains the integrity of the MERLOT template at the same time highlighting important information. Oct 31, 2004

Tim Smith Northern Arizona University Fugues of the Well-Tempered Clavier Professor Smith makes extremely effective use of links in this Snapshot. In the Learning Activities section he links the reader directly to the Fugues of the Well-Tempered Clavier site to illustrate the wide variety of ways the site can be used. Other links take you to the course description and a set of quizzes. By using the linking function of the KEEP Toolkit he uses the 'screen real estate' most effectively. Meaning of course, that he packed a lot of information into a very small space! And, made it easy for a reader to view this great site. Jan 12, 2006

Chris Guenter California State University - Chico K - 6Arts Lessons The K-6 Arts Lessons Plans Snapshot, written by Cris Guenter, takes advantage of the art of simplicity. Her design makes minimal use of imagery to maximize her story. By making the visual image her centerpiece, she focuses the reader's attention on the short descriptions in each section. She adds actual student work (be sure to get students permission to do this!) as well as links to the arts standards related to the learning materials. Guenter's Snapshot illustrates the value of creating links to lead the reader deeper her topic. Nov 18, 2004

Eric Chudler University of Washington Neuroscience for Kids Eric Chudler's snapshot illustrates the importance of being brief. Readers can view the entirety of the snapshot with very little or no scrolling. By keeping the sections on Motivation and Background brief, he focuses the reader on the two things most important in his Snapshot: the types of Learning Activities supported by the site and Tips for Teaching. He too, makes effective use of images, giving the Snapshot a similar 'look and feel' to the Neuroscience for Kids site. Familiar with working with HTML, Chudler also includes an image from his site in the title page. Remember, images cannot be added to the title page when working in the rich text editor. Nov 02, 2004
