Gallery of Sample MERLOT From the Author Snapshots
In this gallery you will find a selection of Snapshots that illustrate good practices in creating Snapshots. As you design your own Snapshot, review the examples to learn how these authors 'told their story' using good writing for the Web techniques.Research shows that when reading on the Web, readers scan the page. Few if any, read word for word. Knowing this, the authors of these example Snapshots gave the reader the highlights of the story; they refer the reader to other sites, documents, or resources for more in-depth learning. They "chunk" the information under six standard headings and keep their stories brief, but engaging. As you read, ask yourself: What did the author highlight? How did the author include images, links to documents or URLS that illustrated their point, add interest, or brighten up the page? How did the author respond to the prompts found in the MERLOT Snapshot template? How did they condense materials to meet good writing for the web? Knowing the answers to these questions will help you design an easy to read, Web-ready Snapshot.
